THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

Repairs to The Shell House folly C19th

Initial Survey & Condition

Beautiful little folly constructed using knapped and random flint with pebble inset panels of varying colours. Internal lime plaster walls intricately covered in shells. Due to neglect, vandalism and ivy growth the roof was leaking and causing further decay to the structure. The flint and pebble panels were falling out and required localised repairs.

Schedule of Repairs

  1. Removal of decayed roof structure and decayed stone copings & pinnacles. Replicate existing stonework with new Portland Stone and rebuild using lime mortar.
  2. Repair flint and pebble panels matching existing sizes and colours laid in lime mortar
  3. Rebuild the roof structure matching original style using reconstituted stone.
